Karp: Spelling Trouble (from Karp, 1997)

Karp is a band like GodheadSilo—seemed like everyone I knew was into them back in 1995-98 or so; but they had a kind of juvenile stoner throwback vibe about them, like they weren’t fully serious about what they were doing, or they were designed to be grown out of. Hence they don’t seem to have much of a legacy. But comparing them to a band that has retained some kind of legacy—the Melvins, say—and Karp definitely hold their own. I did grow out of Karp—I just don’t listen to that much music, if any, that is still this heavy. But listening to this album again after many, many years, it’s still totally solid for what it is.
