A few more miscellaneous notes about Craw:

1. Did you listen to the drums on that track? Not that I understood the significance at the time, but Craw was the first record I ever heard that was produced by Steve Albini. (Maybe it was the second; I got this around the same time In Utero came out.)

2. The guitar player from Craw must have been some kind of computer geek, because even back in 1994 he was on the internet. He had to have had one of the first band-run blogs (before they were called blogs). I was doing a little searching for another band who I’ll be blogging about soon and I came across this page. Literally a webpage I must have read, sitting in my childhood house, fifteen years ago.

3. Craw put out, I believe, four albums total, though I only heard the first two. Their second, Lost Nation Road, is also pretty good if memory serves. The opening track fucking nuts—you thought there was a lot of screaming on this record? Their most recent album came out on Hydra Head a few years ago; according to their Wikipedia page they were still together as of 2007, though it doesn’t sound like they get out of Cleveland any more. All but the most recent album are out of print.

4. I haven’t listened to this album since some time in college, though the CD has never left my collection. I put it on this weekend for the first time in more than ten years and was surprised to find that it still holds up really well. To my ears, it really doesn’t sound dated. I might have rose-colored, er, earphones on, though.

5. Judge for yourself: here’s the whole record.
